5-ply corrugated boxes use a double-wall construction — two corrugated flute layers separated by a middle liner, with outer and inner liners on each face. This gives a total wall thickness of approximately 7mm and burst factor of 18-22 BF, more than double the strength of standard 3-ply boxes. Load capacity is up to 30 kg per carton. The double-wall structure resists crushing under stacking loads, making it suitable for palletised shipments where multiple layers of boxes are stacked on top of each other.
Upackarts supplies 5-ply corrugated in standard and custom dimensions with MOQ 50 units. Anti-moisture treatment is available for monsoon-season dispatch or humid warehouse conditions.
Auto-component manufacturers in Chakan MIDC and Bhosari MIDC use 5-ply corrugated for packaging machined parts, castings, forgings, and sub-assemblies. The heavy-duty construction protects components from vibration damage during road transport to OEM assembly plants. Export manufacturers use 5-ply as the outer carton for shipments going via Mumbai port and Nhava Sheva where handling is rough and transit times are long.
Heavy engineering companies use 5-ply for packing spare parts, bearings, and electrical equipment. Pharmaceutical companies use 5-ply for secondary packaging of bulk medicine shipments requiring stacking strength. E-commerce sellers with heavy or high-value products use 5-ply to reduce damage-in-transit claims.
The decision to upgrade from 3-ply to 5-ply should be driven by product weight, transit conditions, and stacking load. Products above 5 kg, rough-handling logistics routes, and palletised shipments that will be stacked 2 or more layers high all justify 5-ply. The additional cost per box is typically ₹40-80 compared to 3-ply, but the cost of a single damage claim almost always exceeds the packaging upgrade cost for an entire month's dispatch.
For auto components in the 5-15 kg weight range, specify 18 BF minimum. For heavier components or export shipments, specify 22 BF. Upackarts can supply corrugated tested to specific BF values with manufacturer test certificates if required by your buyer.
Yes. 1-4 colour flexographic printing is available on 5-ply corrugated with MOQ 500 units. This is commonly used by exporters who need to print shipping marks, product codes, handling instructions, and brand information directly on the carton.
