Anti-static poly bags (pink) prevent triboelectric charging — static electricity generated when the bag rubs against surfaces during handling. Standard plastic bags generate 100 to 10,000V of static that permanently damages ESD-sensitive components.
Anti-Static vs Static Shielding
Anti-static (pink): Prevent charge generation. Do NOT block external static fields. For moderately ESD-sensitive components.
Static shielding (silver metallic): Faraday cage blocks all static fields. For bare ICs, processors, MSL-rated components.
Never use clear standard LDPE bags for PCBs or ICs — standard plastic generates damaging static.
Useful Life
Anti-static additive gradually depletes with handling. Do not use bags older than 3 years for critical ESD-sensitive components.
