Seaworthy packaging is a category of wooden packaging engineered to survive the conditions of ocean freight — multi-week transit, ship movement, temperature and humidity variation, and rough port handling. Standard corrugated cartons and domestic wooden boxes are not designed for these conditions and will fail during sea freight. Seaworthy packaging is built specifically to protect cargo for the entire duration of an ocean voyage.
Upackarts supplies seaworthy wooden packaging for manufacturers and exporters shipping out of Mumbai port and Nhava Sheva. This includes ISPM-15 certified wooden crates, heavy-duty pallets, bolster frames for machinery, and skid bases for equipment that is too large for a standard crate.
A complete seaworthy pack typically includes a base skid or pallet for crane and forklift handling, a crate structure enclosing the cargo, internal blocking and bracing to prevent movement inside the crate, VCI film or desiccant bags for corrosion protection on metal goods, and ISPM-15 certified timber throughout. For open-top cargo, a tarpaulin-covered frame may be used instead of a fully enclosed crate.
The design of a seaworthy pack must account for the gross weight, centre of gravity, cargo footprint, and the handling equipment available at origin, destination, and any intermediate trans-shipment ports.
Auto-component exporters in Chakan and Bhosari MIDC shipping to overseas assembly plants. Capital equipment manufacturers sending machinery to project sites abroad. Spare parts exporters supplying replacement components to overseas distributors. Pharmaceutical equipment manufacturers exporting processing machinery.
Standard wooden crates are designed for road transport and short-term storage. Seaworthy packaging is engineered for the additional stresses of ocean freight — ship motion, humidity variation, longer transit times, and rough port handling. Seaworthy packs include blocking and bracing to prevent internal cargo movement, moisture protection, and ISPM-15 compliant timber throughout.
Yes. All wooden packaging in international sea freight must be ISPM-15 compliant, and your freight forwarder will require the heat treatment certificate before accepting the shipment. Upackarts provides this certificate with every seaworthy pack order.
Share your cargo dimensions (L x W x H), gross weight, destination country, and port of loading. Upackarts will design an appropriate pack and provide a detailed quote. For machinery with complex shapes, a site visit or detailed drawing may be needed.
