Guide
PP strapping and filament reinforced strapping tape are both used to secure and bundle industrial loads. The choice between them is not obvious — both provide high tensile strength, both work on a wide range of load types. The difference is in operational context.
---
15mm PP strapping at 20 BF grade: 250 to 350 kg breaking strength.
19mm PP strapping heavy duty: 400 to 550 kg breaking strength.
Filament tape 25mm standard grade: 80 to 100 kg tensile strength.
Filament tape 25mm heavy duty: 120 to 180 kg tensile strength.
Filament tape 38mm heavy duty: 200 to 250 kg tensile strength.
For loads above 200 kg: PP strapping is the stronger option.
For loads under 150 kg: Filament tape is competitive and operationally faster.
---
PP strapping at scale: With a manual tool and metal seals — 45 to 90 seconds per strap. With a battery tool — 15 to 30 seconds. For high-volume palletising operations (above 50 pallets per day), the tool investment pays off quickly.
Filament tape: Unroll, apply, cut with scissors — 10 to 20 seconds per strap. No tools, no clips, no setup. For variable, low-volume bundling operations, filament tape is significantly faster.
---
PP strapping requires the strap to wrap around the load and the two ends to meet at a point where the tool can seal them. For loads with projections, sharp corners, or irregular shapes that prevent the strap from running in a straight path: PP strapping is difficult or impossible to apply correctly.
Filament tape conforms to any surface. Wrap it around a complex shape, cross it over projections, apply it in any direction. For pipes with flange connections, machinery with protruding components, and bundles of irregular profiles: filament tape is the only practical option.

PP strapping 15mm at 1,000m per roll: Rs. 380 to Rs. 520 per roll. Approximately Rs. 0.40 to Rs. 0.55 per metre.
Plus manual tool: Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 3,500 (one-time).
Plus metal seals: Rs. 50 to Rs. 80 per 1,000 seals.
Effective cost per strap (1.5m): Rs. 0.75 to Rs. 1.00 plus seal cost.
Filament tape 25mm at 50m per roll: Rs. 180 to Rs. 250 per roll. Rs. 3.60 to Rs. 5.00 per metre.
Effective cost per strap (1.5m): Rs. 5.40 to Rs. 7.50.
PP strapping is 5 to 10 times cheaper per metre. For high-volume palletising operations with consistent geometry, PP strapping is significantly more economical.
For variable-volume, irregular geometry applications: the speed and tool-free convenience of filament tape often outweighs the per-metre cost premium.
---
Use PP strapping for: High-volume regular pallets with consistent load geometry. Loads above 200 kg requiring maximum holding strength. Operations where strapping cost is a significant budget item (above 100 straps per day).
Use filament tape for: Irregular shapes that PP tools cannot wrap around. Low-volume bundling (under 30 bundles per day) where tool investment is not justified. Quick bundling operations where 10-second application speed matters. Reinforcing corrugated box seams before export dispatch.

For loads under 150 kg with irregular geometry: filament tape is a practical replacement for PP strapping and often faster. For loads above 200 kg or high-volume regular palletising: PP strapping's higher breaking strength and lower per-metre cost make it the right choice. Most operations use both — PP for pallets, filament tape for individual component bundles.
Filament tape uses pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive. On smooth clean surfaces (metal, plastic, glass) it removes without residue when removed within 48 hours. On rough or porous surfaces, or after extended time, adhesive residue may remain. For surfaces where residue is unacceptable, apply masking tape to the surface first, then filament tape over the masking tape.
Use 25mm or 38mm filament tape for reinforcing corrugated box seams and wooden crate joints before export. Apply diagonally across corners and over panel joints. The fibreglass filaments resist the mechanical stress of ocean transit vibration that causes standard tape to peel.
