Humidity Indicator Cards

Humidity indicator cards (HICs) placed inside sealed MBBs change colour at specific RH thresholds — providing visual verification that humidity has not exceeded safe levels throughout storage.

Cobalt Chloride-Free Grade

Traditional HICs use cobalt chloride (accurate but classified as toxic/carcinogenic under EU RoHS and REACH). Cobalt-free HICs use non-toxic organic indicators while meeting all IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 accuracy requirements. Many EU importers now specifically require cobalt-free HICs.

Reading the Card

If the 10% RH spot has turned pink when the sealed MBB is opened: the component has been exposed to excessive moisture. For MSL components: bake at specified temperature and duration per IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 before board mounting.

Card Types

3-spot (30, 40, 50% RH): For general moisture monitoring.

6-spot (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60% RH): For IPC/JEDEC and pharmaceutical applications.
