VCI rust preventive paper is kraft paper impregnated with volatile corrosion inhibitor compounds that vapourise slowly, forming a molecular protective layer on nearby metal surfaces without direct contact. Protection is invisible and does not affect surface finish, dimensions, or subsequent processing.
How VCI Paper Works
VCI vapour fills the enclosed packaging space and adsorbs onto metal surfaces, displacing moisture and blocking the electrochemical corrosion reaction. No cleaning or removal required before welding, painting, or plating.
Protection Duration
Corrugated box (not sealed): 6 to 12 months below 35°C.
Sealed poly bag with VCI paper: 12 to 24 months.
Tropical humid environments above 35°C, 80% RH: Reduce by 30 to 50 percent. Add silica gel desiccant.
Applications
Machined auto components: Wrap individually before boxing. Standard practice at Tier 1 and Tier 2 auto suppliers.
Precision tools and dies: Sealed in HDPE bags with VCI paper between production runs.
Bearing and fastener export: VCI paper interleaved between layers.
